Aquatica
When I came across a pile of discarded engine cylinders at the local junkyard, I knew immediately what I could turn them into. Piecing the cylinders end to end created a feeling of some kind of submersible vehicle, and the fins became masts with rigging and sails to boot. I added a brass propeller to complete the mechanical aquatic feel. A blacksmith friend of mine forged the “sword” or bill of this magnificent creature in his studio in New York. The end result is a stunning sculpture that showcases how discarded materials can be repurposed into creative and meaningful ways.
