Icon
This piece began with a double barrel carburetor from a 1969 Ford Mustang. Being an iconic American brand, I began to contemplate what this sculpture should become, and my mind first went towards a horse. After a little contemplation, I determined that this powerful V-8 part needed an iconic animal to match its pedigree and the American Bison was ultimately chosen. I’ve always been fascinated by the bison as it represents one of the few large mammals that are unique to North America, so combining these two concepts has been a favorite of mine. I meticulously sculpted the head adding details like ball bearings for the eyes and moved towards the center of the sculpture to combine the organic to the inorganic. In keeping with the spirit of the 1969 Ford muscle car, this sculpture incorporates headers and a “dual exhaust” to pay homage to the original V-8 engine, which was itself a masterpiece of engineering. It is therefore for obvious reasons that the title of this piece is “Icon.”
