Leo Marinus

Leo Marinus

When I stumbled upon a valve body for a hydraulic control unit at a local junkyard, I knew I had found my next project. Inspired by the intricate beauty of the lionfish, I decided to create a sculpture of this stunning creature using the metal parts I had collected. The jagged edges and organic shapes of the valve control unit lent themselves perfectly to capturing the essence of the lionfish's spiky fins and graceful movement through the water. The process of transforming discarded objects into a work of art is incredibly rewarding, and I am thrilled with the final result. All of my sculptures serve as a reminder of the beauty that can be found in unexpected places, and I hope it will inspire others to see the potential in the world around them.  The title of this piece is “Leo Marinus” meaning “Lion of the Sea.”
