Sonus Harmonia

Sonus Harmonia

This sculpture began at a local thrift shop where I discovered an  antique sterling silver clarinet.  My first thought was that it was a flute, but I was informed that the silver instrument was in fact a clarinet. As it turns out, the traditional wood clarinets were more expensive in the past as they required an advanced level of craftsmanship to fashion them out of wood. As this technology predates the invention of plastics, sterling silver was the preferred method for crafting clarinets as a cheaper alternative.  The concept of music predominated the creative aspects and drew me towards sculpting a humpback whale as they are known for their expertise in song.
